The way I determined what to research was by focusing on a problem that I know affects many people on a daily basis. I then thought of something that would interest me within my specific profession. This was difficult for me, because I have never fully researched migraines. I just went to the doctor and had medication prescribed to me. I never sat back and thought of how the drug would interact within my system, or how the medications would inhibit the symptoms. I then thought about researching how the medication would attack the nerves that cause migraines. Upon doing a little bit of research, I found that no medication could prevent migraines from occurring. I then began to think of why this is. I know that I have an uphill battle ahead in trying to figure out some things that licensed pharmacists, with much more experience in this area that I have, have not been able to determine. My main goal is to try to become more educated in the way migraine medications help alleviate symptoms and help patients lead normal more pain free lives. I connected this to the discourse community by researching some of the websites that I mentioned in my research problem assignment. I will also speak to the pharmacist from Walgreens, about his past dealings with migraines and hopefully be able to come away more educated about this plight. Linking this to the theoretical frame has been a bit of a challenge to me because my thoughts do not always come out on paper or aloud the way they do inside of my mind. However, I am going to consistently try to improve my writing within the discourse community as well as link my question with research to back it up. It seems like it might take some finesse, however, I will continue to edit until I become more knowledgeable about the effects of migraine medication and the amount of research that has been sunk into finding the cause of migraines. The more I delve into the pharmacist discourse community, the more confidence I will gain and the more insight I will acquire, which will help me make more of a contribution to it.
